Volunteer Driver

Volunteer drivers use their own cars to take people with poor mobility to appointments. This could be social groups, visiting friends and family, medical or shopping. All out of pocket expenses paid. Ongoing support is available and a short induction will be given. We offer training courses including dementia awareness, first aid and moving and handling. Volunteers can give regular days each week or volunteer on an ad hoc basis giving us their availability weekly. Some like to do full days and others like to do a morning or afternoon or just have a couple of drives in a day. We match volunteers to the sort of drives they like to do i.e some like to take people shopping or to social groups on a regular basis, other are happy to do other drive to various places.

Stockport Car Scheme

Organisation description:

Stockport Car Scheme is a registered charity. We support Stockport residents who find it difficult to use public transport due to illness, age or disability. We have volunteer drivers, who use their own cars, to help people to get to appointments including social groups, day centres, visiting friends and family, hairdressers and shopping. We also take people to doctors, dentists, opticians and some hospitals. We collect from home, take to their appointment, wait with them if necessary, and then take home afterwards.
