Signpost for Carers Digital Champions

REF: 69319040c4374

Would you like to help more people in Stockport to use the internet or feel more confident using a computer? Tech genius NOT required! Your everyday knowledge using a smart phone or browsing websites is enough. If you have experience helping friends and family use their phones or learn something new, that’s even better. Are you friendly and patient? Do you feel confident to chat to new people over a brew? Are you happy to pitch in and help with other tasks, like making teas and coffees, as well as giving digital support? Then being a Digital champion volunteer is for you! Signpost are looking for some help at their monthly drop in sessions at Marple, Heald Green and Romilly.

Role

Signpost Stockport for Carers and Starting Point are teaming up to help visitors to four drop-in sessions across Stockport. These sessions are always a friendly space where unpaid carers can have a break, have a cup of tea and a biscuit, and chat to other people. We know that struggling to do online tasks can make caring more difficult. Some visitors to Signpost’s sessions don’t have time to get to digital classes. We want to go to them, and help them with problems in a place where they feel safe. You’ll be chatting to people, and when a digital question comes up, you’ll be helping to solve that problem. That might mean supporting the person to fill in an online form, find an email, sign up for a Signpost activity online or learn to use their phone. We will ask you to help with some other tasks as part of the team – ie clearing tables, making drinks, putting chairs away or washing up. This will help you get to know everyone and feel like part of the team, so you do need to be happy to pitch in. You may get the chance to organise some fun digital activities - for instance showing people how to use Wordle, use silly filters on their photos or do an online jigsaw. We give full training to all volunteers, as well as ‘top up’ training on current issues or things you need to know. You’ll have support from Starting Point staff as well as Signpost Stockport for Carers staff. You’ll never be on your own when you volunteer. When will volunteering take place? Signpost hope to have volunteers at these venues. (may be subject to change) Marple - 10am -12pm . 2nd Wednesday of month.
