Reading volunteer for primary schools

REF: 661558688c72f

Could you volunteer for an hour or two each week to help children with their reading? Schoolreaders volunteers are matched with a local primary school and visit once a week in term time for an hour or two and listen to children read individually to help support the children’s reading and comprehension development but also to develop the children’s social skills and develop a long term love of reading, that will have a positive impact on them as they progress through the school system and adult life. Many of our Headteachers say that the relationship that the children have with their reading volunteer has a significant impact on boosting children's confidence and reading skills.

Role

Our volunteers do not need any previous experience or specific skills but they do need to be over 18, have good written and spoken English and enjoy working with primary aged children. Our volunteers also need to be able to commit to volunteering at their matched school for at least a year, although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time.
