Organisation description:
The Independent Monitoring Boards (IMB) are made up of volunteers who provide independent oversight of prisons and immigration detention facilities across the UK. Our role is to ensure that people in custody are treated fairly, humanely, and with respect, regardless of their circumstances. IMB members visit their local prison or detention centre regularly, speaking to those detained and staff, observing daily life, and reporting on what they find. This independent scrutiny helps maintain standards of decency and contributes to a fair and transparent justice system.
