Digital Champion with Starting Point – Stockport town centre - Tues or Thurs

REF: 6a01b3eca5501

Would you like to help more people in Stockport to get online or feel more confident using a computer? Tech genius NOT required! Your everyday knowledge using a smart phone, browsing websites or using a computer at work or for study is enough. Have you helped friends or family to use their computer or phone? Do you want to help your community? Would you like a friendly volunteer role where you meet new people? Then you can be a Digital Champion! This is a flexible role where you have a regular time and day to volunteer, but we usually have a rota, so no pressure to volunteer every week. Can you help us support learners at our weekly drop-in at Cornerstone, (Stockport Homes building? 10.30am - 12.30 am on Thursdays or at York Street Community Centre, Edgeley, 3-4pm) on Tuesdays? Our digital learners come along to solve online problems, learn new skills, and feel more confident to use their everyday tech. Some people come every week, and some people come to see us when they have a new digital task or problem.

Role

As a Digital Champion, your role will be to work with other volunteers to help our learners feel more confident using devices, going online or completing everyday digital tasks they need to do. This could be applying for work online, typing up a document, using a new phone, filling in an online form, browsing the web, being safer online or using their emails more confidently. Sometimes you may have to do some googling yourself to find a solution and work with Starting Point staff or other volunteers. We make sure we help learners use their new knowledge, write notes or practice their skills so they learn for next time a digital problem comes up. We only support with basic digital skills, so your everyday knowledge will be enough to help our learners. Full training will be given for all roles, and you will have support from staff when you volunteer. You will be part of a team of volunteers, as we look for 4-6 volunteers for each role. This means it’s a sociable role, but also we offer flexibility if you can’t always come in every week. If you don’t know the answer, one of the rest of the team will.
