Databank Digital Champion with Starting Point

REF: 6a01c4ffbad49

Would you like to help more people in Stockport to access support from the National Databank, to understand their data use, and use their devices confidently?

Tech genius NOT required!

Your everyday knowledge using a smart phone, browsing websites or using a computer at work is enough.

Have you helped friends or family to use their computer or phone?

Do you want to help your community?

Would you like a friendly volunteer role where you meet new people?

Can you be empathetic and supportive to people struggling with the cost of their phone and data?

This is a flexible role where you have a regular time and day to volunteer, but we usually have a rota, so no pressure to volunteer every week. You'll get full training on Digital Champion skills, and also how to use the National Databank system.

Then you can be a Databank Digital Champion with Starting Point!

Role

Every week we support people to access the National Databank from Good Things Foundation. This support is available for anyone on a low income, who is struggling to afford the cost of their phone and data.

You can read more about the National Databank on the Good Things Foundation website.

As a Databank Digital Champion, you will be helping us to issue sim cards, and supporting customers to put these into their phones, and check they work. You may be helping people to manage their data, download apps, or trouble shoot device issues. You may be helping us to manage a que of people, telling them politely when to come back for their slot. You do need to feel confident to talk to new people, and to work with people who may be having a tough time.

You will get full training for this role, and support from Starting Point staff when you volunteer. You can volunteer with us every week if you want to, but we usually have a rota, and recruit more than one volunteer, so you don't have to.

For this role, you will meet people who are having a tough time. You will have support from Starting Point staff when you volunteer, and we will make sure you feel safe and supported when you volunteer. Some of our customers have disabilities or health conditions, or may be feeling nervous or anxious due to mental health problems. Others may be homeless or under alot of stress. You may hear some strong language or hear some sad stories. Some customers are new to the UK and learning English, so you may need to use a translation app (we will give you training and support to do this). For this role you do need to be patient, kind, and able to be empathetic to everyone who comes to use this service.

You will be making a real difference to the people who need it most in your community in Stockport - we would love to have your help
