Chair

REF: 69aac692b730d

Stockport Talking Newspaper provides news, information and entertainment each week for the benefit of blind and visually impaired people within Stockport.

Role

Overview
We are seeking a new chair to lead our registered charity, Stockport Talking Newspaper. We have been providing audio news, information and entertainment for Stockport’s blind and visually impaired community since 1977. Next year, 2027, will be our 50th anniversary which makes a suitable point to hand over to a new chair.

Scope
The task is to provide imaginative and practical leadership to a team of 30+ volunteers who, using modern technology, create and manage the production of weekly and monthly audio content for distribution to blind and visually impaired people in Stockport, and beyond.

The charity holds three committee meetings (2 plus AGM) each year and operates one day per week (Wednesdays) from its purpose-built studio within Walthew House - a separate charity providing support for people with sight and hearing loss.

We are fortunate to have adequate resources, so fund-raising is not a key part of the role. However, ensuring public awareness by representing the charity both within the sector and to potential new users of our service is an important aspect.

Stockport is one of over 200 talking newspapers around the UK and maintaining engagement within that larger community ensures that we are both informed about factors affecting the sector and play our part in that wider community.
