We are looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to support our community café at Stockport Connect Hub. This is a great opportunity to meet people, learn new skills, and make a positive difference in a welcoming environment.
Date, Time and Venue – Once or twice a week. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 10:30am – 2:30pm, on a day that works for you at Stockport Connect Hub, Progress House, 35A Adswood Lane East, Stockport, SK2 6RE

Role

Welcoming customers and taking their orders in a warm, friendly manner
Supporting volunteers, some of whom are clients.
If needed, assisting the cook with preparing food and drinks, following Food Hygiene and Health & Safety procedures (full training provided)
Keeping tables, counters and the kitchen area clean and tidy
Restocking food and drink items as needed
Volunteering as part of a supportive, community-focused team

You will need good communication skills and the ability to volunteer as part of a team. It would be benefit if you had some skills in preparing food and drinks, such as chopping, plating meals and putting snacks together. You will need awareness of food hygiene, but we will provide training on this before you start your volunteer role. As part of our Mental Wellbeing Hub, the group supports adults experiencing mental health challenges, so a compassionate, understanding, and non‑judgmental approach is essential. • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others are important • Some basic food preparation skills (e.g., chopping, plating meals, preparing snacks) would be helpful but not essential • Awareness of food hygiene is beneficial, but full training will be provided before you start • We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, if you’re enthusiastic and willing to learn, we’d love to hear from you

Stockport Connect Hub

Organisation description:

Supporting adults (18+) in Stockport that are currently accessing or have previously accessed secondary mental health services. Our service offers a safe and welcoming space for members of the hub to access a range of information, advice, and emotional and practical support to improve mental wellbeing. Open Monday to Friday, between 11:00am – 4:00pm We offer a range of therapeutic groups and activities, with additional groups and events taking place in the evenings. The Hub Wellbeing and Engagement Team provides 1-1 appointments between 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. We welcome self-referrals and referrals from professionals - it’s quick, easy and we’re here to help. 1-1 staff support and group support, where needed, to help people to talk, listen and feel connected and to enable people to take ownership of their mental wellbeing A safe, accessible space for people to connect with like-minded people who offer peer-to-peer support Experienced staff who can help connect people to local specialist support services Guidance to navigate housing, employment, debt, emotional support, and physical health services Opportunities to keep learning with a range of courses Volunteering opportunities to give support to the community by providing people with new skills, which also increases chances of employment Our service offers person-centered mental health support over a 12-week period, with a focus on helping you explore your goals, build resilience, and find strategies that work for you. You’ll have access to 1:1 sessions, wellbeing planning and group activities.
