Reddish Men In Sheds (RMIS) is a group of (mainly) older men who meet three afternoons each week to refurbish unwanted bicycles. But... you don't need to be an older male to volunteer with us! And you don't need to have any bike maintenance skills either for this Admin role. So keep reading about what we do...! Most of these bikes are then donated via our ‘Bike Giveaway’ scheme to people facing financial or social disadvantage. We sell some of the bicycles to the community via a local charity shop (Re:Dish) or direct sales, and also provide affordable bike servicing and repairs. We are members of the UK Men's Sheds Association and align with their aims of 'Connection, conversation and creation'. RMIS offers meaningful activity to show our members that there is still purpose in life and things to do and achieve. Role

This is to support our only volunteer Administrator who at present does all the grant applications (we are a not-for-profit group and rely heavily on external funding), accounts, marketing/ publicity via our website and Instagram, email handling etc. You will not be expected to have anything to do with the bikes, this is to help to keep the group funded and running smoothly. An ability to commit long-term (at least 18 months) is essential, simply because of the role you will be expected to play. Ideally you will have some or all of these skills: Essential - a good command of English for writing grant applications (you will be taught how to do these if you have no prior experience) Preferred - familiarity with Google Drive, Sheets and Docs. Preferred - familiarity with maintaining a Website and Instagram account.

Our sessions run Monday, Wednesday and Fridays 12-4pm so you could attend on one of those days, and then work from home as well.

Reddish Men in Sheds

Organisation description:

Reddish Men in Sheds is a group of older men who meet several afternoons each week to repair donated bicycles. We sell these onto the community directly or via a local charity shop. By selling at modest prices we ensure that everyone can access cycling regardless of income. We also donate children's bikes to a local school at Christmas and summer holiday times to enable some children to have their very own bike who would not otherwise get this opportunity. We save a lot of bikes from disuse or landfill. As well as boosting the physical and mental health of the community by providing affordable access to exercise we also want to improve the health of our group. There will be over 1.5 million men aged over 50 in the UK by 2030. After a lifetime of active working, older men may find themselves with poor health, bereaved or divorced, no families nearby, have restricted social activities etc. This creates loneliness and limited life choices. In Reddish, where we are based, there are high rates of inactivity among the older males. We offer meaningful activity to show that there is still purpose in life and things to achieve
