Music In Mind volunteers

REF: 6a84221bd5236

We have one Music in Mind group currently in Heaton Moor (Tuesday afternoons) and have just been granted funding to start two more in September 2026. One will be in Step Out in Reddish (Tuesday mornings) and the other will be in Life Leisure in Brinnington (day and time TBC). These groups use music therapy techniques to support people living with dementia and their carers to improve their wellbeing. Original volunteers and staff on the project were trained by Manchester Camerata in these techniques and you will have access to their online training platform and tracks. No experience of music is required as the group is about the connection with the attendees. Instruments are all handheld and easy to use (eg, drums, tambourines, bells). The group runs for 36 weeks of the year, roughly around school terms.

Role

We will get you a relevant DBS and provide all training and expenses, you just need to be willing to learn and put the skills into practice, able to work as part of a team and have good communication skills. You can find out more about the role and apply at https://www.togsmind.org/get-involved/volunteering/
