Meet and greet

REF: 6a6b53e209a43

Making Space is a national charity and leading provider of health and social care services. We have been helping people with care and support needs to lead fulfilling lives since 1982.
Stockport Open Door is part of Making Space. Our friendly team provided support for people over 18 to have mental health and wellbeing support tailored to their needs. A recovery worker meet with individuals for emotional support and to work together on developing a plan to improve their wellbeing.
We are supporting more people but there isn't always someone to greet people when recovery workers are doing one to one sessions. Volunteers would meet and greet people for appointments and when people drop in at the service. You will be the first port of call, greeting people and helping them feel at ease. There will be staff around to ask for help when needed and there will be opportunities for you to learn, meet people and give something back.

Role

As you would be volunteering with adults who are more at risk, with people living with mental illness we would do a DBS check as part of your application. This involves filling in an online form and bringing in some ID to your volunteer discussion about your volunteering.
For this role, you need to confident communicating with people from a variety of backgrounds, have a friendly manner and want to help people. An understanding of mental health challenges is useful for this role. This could be from work, volunteering, supporting family members or your own lived experience.
