Our Thursday Gardening Group is a friendly, well established space where people can relax, socialise, and build confidence through hands on gardening activities. We warmly welcome new people and aim to create a calm, supportive environment where everyone can enjoy being outdoors and connecting with nature.

Every Thursday at Stockport Connect Hub, Progress House, 35A Adswood Lane East, Stockport, SK2 6RE In our garden area, from 11:00am to 1:30pm
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Encouraging and supporting participants with their gardening tasks and projects
• Offering ideas, guidance, and inspiration to those unsure where to begin
• Helping to create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere
• Optionally planning simple gardening activities or themed sessions (if desired)
Mental Health Awareness
• Be sensitive to the emotional and psychological needs of participants
• Promote peer support and maintain a non judgmental, stigma free environment
• Notice signs of distress and communicate any concerns to staff members

Role

To support and co-facilitate the gardening group in an inclusive, safe, and engaging way for adults experiencing mental ill health, helping to promote social connection, confidence, and emotional wellbeing through gardening.
We Are Looking for Someone Who Is:
• Friendly, patient, and approachable
• Aged 18 +
• Interested in gardening, nature, and outdoor activities
• Comfortable supporting people with a range of abilities and confidence levels
• Reliable and able to contribute to a positive group environment

Team Building & Inclusion - Help foster a respectful, supportive atmosphere where everyone feels valued. Some group members enjoy working independently, while others benefit from gentle guidance, encouragement, and practical suggestions. As the group is part of our Mental Wellbeing Hub supporting adults with mental health challenges, a compassionate, understanding, and non judgmental approach is essential.

Stockport Connect Hub

Organisation description:

Supporting adults (18+) in Stockport that are currently accessing or have previously accessed secondary mental health services. Our service offers a safe and welcoming space for members of the hub to access a range of information, advice, and emotional and practical support to improve mental wellbeing. Open Monday to Friday, between 11:00am – 4:00pm We offer a range of therapeutic groups and activities, with additional groups and events taking place in the evenings. The Hub Wellbeing and Engagement Team provides 1-1 appointments between 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. We welcome self-referrals and referrals from professionals - it’s quick, easy and we’re here to help. 1-1 staff support and group support, where needed, to help people to talk, listen and feel connected and to enable people to take ownership of their mental wellbeing A safe, accessible space for people to connect with like-minded people who offer peer-to-peer support Experienced staff who can help connect people to local specialist support services Guidance to navigate housing, employment, debt, emotional support, and physical health services Opportunities to keep learning with a range of courses Volunteering opportunities to give support to the community by providing people with new skills, which also increases chances of employment Our service offers person-centered mental health support over a 12-week period, with a focus on helping you explore your goals, build resilience, and find strategies that work for you. You’ll have access to 1:1 sessions, wellbeing planning and group activities.
