Console Club Digital Champion with Starting Point

REF: 6a0ee02ba64cb

Do you enjoy supporting young people aged 11 - 15?

Do you like gaming on Switch, X-box or Playstation?

Do you feel comfortable having conversations about online safety if they come up, (We will give you training and support with this) and to work with Starting Point staff to help young people in our session?

Are you confident to start conversations with young people, and help all our console club participants feel safe and comfortable at our session? You must be happy to volunteer in a sometimes noisy environment.

Are you happy to have a DBS check (we will pay for this)

Then our Console Club Digital Champion role is for you!

Role

This role will involve supporting Starting Point staff at our weekly, term time only Console Club, Wednesdays 4-6pm in Woodley, Stockport

We will be creating a safe, fun after school group for kids aged 11-15 to game in a friendly, inclusive space, meet friends, and share ideas. We think that chats about online safety will come up - but it's not the main aim of the group, and we will give you training on how to have these conversations and what to look out for.

DBS check (criminal records) check is essential - we will pay for this.

You don't have to be able to do every Wednesday, but we would like you to be able to do 2 weeks out of every 4. We are hoping that kids in the group will get to know all our Digital Champions, so we are looking for 2-3 Digital Champions for this role.
If you apply for this volunteer role, we would like you to volunteer for as long as you can, for instance 6 months - 1 year to build up this friendly atmosphere.

You will need to attend a one day training with us before you can volunteer - if you are currently studying, you will need to work out with your college or university how to attend, and working volunteers may need to take annual leave. We are happy to write supporting emails to help you negotiate that!

This role is open to enthusiastic, friendly and empathetic gamers age 16 - 99 years young.

You will always be supervised and supported by Starting Point staff when you volunteer, and we will give you safeguarding, GDPR and Diversity and inclusion training when you volunteer with us.

A great role for anyone who wants to share a love of gaming with the next generation of gamers, who is looking for work in teaching or youth work, who loves gaming with the kids in their life, or who wants to give back to the community in Stockport.
