Gardener

REF: 69fdc798b2142

We are a group of volunteers who have been helping to bring colour, scent and wildlife to Bramhall Park. We only work on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 10am until noon. We then have a (subsidised) drink at the cafe while we chat and discuss plans for the Park. Experience is not necessary as we will teach basic skills (and some advanced ones) but you will need a sense of humour. The vibe is pretty light-hearted with some gentle ribbing of each other at times. We meet near the cafe to sign in (for statistical reasons, not for individual tracking) before collecting tools and going to whichever area we are concentrating on.
There is no obligation to attend each or indeed any session if you are unable to come along.

Role

None of the above.
Knowing which end of a spade goes in the ground reduces training time significantly.
Some volunteers are capable of heavy lifting but others are great at delicately extracting weeds from between the plants we have put in.
The ability to learn the difference between weeds and "proper" plants is a benefit, and will be taught.
Strong shoes and gardening gloves are helpful.

Friends of Bramall Hall and Park

Organisation description:

We are a group of people who cherish Bramall Hall and Park. We have volunteers who greet visitors to the Hall and help them to uncover the hidden gems and underlying history as well as commenting on the more obvious treasures. Some of them also undertake research into the history of the Hall and its owners. There is also a merry band of gardeners who have rejuvenated several areas of the Park, including the Victorian Rock Garden and the even older Walled Garden, providing welcome colour and structure where there used to be brambles and nettles. We have plans for further improvements as time and numbers permit.
