Role
The Plantsman/woman will have the opportunity to use and further develop their skills by providing suitable items for sowing in the planters which are being installed by Greenspace Volunteers across many locations in Stockport. They will have the satisfaction of seeing the results of their work on public display. The candidate can work to their own timetable but must be willing and able to provide, as economically as possible, enough plants, year-round, to service our ever-growing number of planters. Any costs accrued, once agreed, will be refunded. If the person is willing to travel to the various sites to replenish them, then so much the better. Essential requirements: ’green fingers’ and experience of raising plants from seed or seedlings. Age 18 or over. Desirable: Own transport and residence in or near Reddish/Heaton Chapel. When:

Work from home
Other:
We have now carried out several successful projects which have improved many of the spaces around Reddish Vale and elsewhere and which have won praise from local residents and organisations which support volunteer groups including Stockport Council. We have been nominated three times for awards in the last year. Our services are increasingly in demand for installation of planters in public spaces, one of the most prestigious being for provision of planters in Houldsworth Square, Reddish. We now find that the supply of flowers at low cost to fulfil such requests can’t keep up with demand, so this has led us to advertise for a person, perhaps an enthusiastic amateur gardener, to help us with these projects.

Organisation description:
We are a group of volunteers who are trying to maintain and improve the greenspaces around Stockport. We aim to engage with the local communities to see what they want from their greenspaces and encourage them to take pride in their local slice of greenery. So far, our work has mainly focused around Reddish Vale Country Park, working with and supporting local community groups. Among other things, our volunteers have done a lot of: grass-cutting, leaf-blowing, litter-picking, overgrowth-clearing, tree-pruning, fence fixing and much, much more! We have also repaired and replaced broken benches, and installed new benches, tables and planters at the request of local residents and greenspace users. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our group.
