Walk and Talk Leader

REF: 662a56f0114b1

We are looking for a volunteer to help run our walking group, ‘Walk & Talk’, which provides a space for former carers to connect with others in a similar position whilst engaging in gentle exercise. The walks are run on a monthly basis and alternate between different parks in Stockport. These walks vary in length, but take no longer than 45-60 minutes (at a very leisurely pace) with a break afterwards for refreshments. You will welcome our former carers and create a comfortable atmosphere so everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.

Role

Empathy and good listening skills will be crucial at times for this role, given that sometimes the attendees can be experiencing emotional times, especially if their bereavement is recent and so good listening skills and empathy are a must. This may be the first group environment that former carers have participated in and so they may need some encouragement to engage with others.

Signpost for Carers

Organisation description:

Signpost Stockport for Carers is an independent local charity who have been supporting carers for more than 30 years. If you’re a Stockport carer or caring for somebody living in Stockport, we’re here for you. A carer is anyone providing help to a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage without them because of frailty, illness, addiction or disability. Carers often don’t recognise themselves as ‘carers’; they just think of themselves as helping out somebody they care about. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for carers in Stockport from 6 years old to 96 years old and everyone in-between!
