Volunteers needed to support reading in local primary schools

REF: 661558688c72f

Do you have an hour or 2 to spare each week? Could you volunteer to listen to children read? Schoolreaders volunteers are matched with a primary school that is local to them. They visit once a week (term time only) and listen to children read individually to help support their reading and comprehension skills but also to encourage the children to enjoy engaging with with books and go on to develop a long term love of reading. This will have a huge impact on them as they progress through their education journey and into later life. Many of our Headteachers say that the relationship that the children have with their reading volunteer has a significant impact on boosting children's confidence and reading skills.

Role

Our volunteers do not need any previous experience or specific skills but they do need to be over 18, have good written and spoken English. They also need to be able to commit to volunteering at their matched school for at least a year, although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time. Volunteers will also need a DBS check carried out, but this is at no cost to the volunteer.
