REF: PIMHS Sto
Have you experienced post-natal illness and would like to support someone else on their journey? Would you like to give something back to your local community? Do you have an interest in early attachment? Are you a parent, step-parent or foster-parent? Home-Start HOST work with in partnership with NHS services supporting parents to build a positive relationship with their baby. In addition to our Home-Start Volunteer Preparation Course, you'll receive further training around early attachment and parent-infant mental health to enhance your knowledge and awareness. This training covers concepts and theories related to early attachment and parent-infant mental health such as neuro-science, infant development, psychoanalysis and attachment. Our volunteers support families with a child under 2 with a weekly visit, providing befriending support for parents, and encouraging and supporting early relationships We know this early period is crucial in a child’s life, and support in those early years can make a huge difference to families and for a child’s future well-being. We'll take your wishes and skills into account when we match you with a family, and we hope that both you and the family you support will benefit from the experience! You'll gain skills and experience, be able to access a wide variety of training, meet other volunteers and have full support from a volunteer coordinator throughout your volunteering. Because of the nature of the contact you’ll have with families, Home-Start HOST will apply for an enhanced DBS check for all volunteers. Organisation description:
Home-Start HOST is a local charity of trained volunteers and dedicated, experienced staff. We help families with young children flourish during the years of early childhood, supporting parents across Stockport (and Tameside, Oldham and Glossop). Children who are raised in a stable and loving family environment are more likely to have a positive and healthy future. We are here to support parents, so they can give their children the best start in life. Our support is compassionate, confidential and non-judgmental. We match families who may be pregnant or have child(ren) under the age of five with a volunteer who will visit the family home for up to two hours each week. This could be for a chat; to support the family to go to a local group; to listen non-judegmentally. It may be the family are feeling isolated; have twins and feel overwhelmed; lack the confidence to go out as a family; have mild to moderate mental health needs and just need that extra support.
