The Carers Assessments Support Volunteer forms part of Signpost’s Carers Assessment Team. We receive a high number of referrals and requests for Carers Assessments. To stop people remaining on a waiting list for a long time with no contact, we would love to be able to make contact sooner. This will also help us to identify any support that they might need in the interim. Registering carers gives them access to a host of services we offer as a charity including benefits advice and counselling.
Role
The role includes making outbound calls to carers, explaining that they are on our waiting list and registering them on our database. The nature of these calls means that some carers may be emotional or anxious and will need patience and empathy. As a volunteer, you will not be expected to advise carers or resolve their queries, though they may need you to listen to them and allow them to feel heard. Instead, if needed, you will be triaging and referring callers to the relevant support worker within the team, and/or registering them on our database. With a keen eye for detail, you will be entering online registrations onto our database ‘Charity Log’ accurately and efficiently. Confidence in making outbound calls is therefore essential to this role, alongside an ability to explain to carers that they will be contacted by another member of the team to possibly provide support. When:

Organisation description:
Signpost Stockport for Carers is an independent local charity who have been supporting carers for more than 30 years. If you’re a Stockport carer or caring for somebody living in Stockport, we’re here for you. A carer is anyone providing help to a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage without them because of frailty, illness, addiction or disability. Carers often don’t recognise themselves as ‘carers’; they just think of themselves as helping out somebody they care about. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for carers in Stockport from 6 years old to 96 years old and everyone in-between!
