Sector 3 is Stockport’s Local Infrastructure Organisation, supporting more than 1,700 charities, community groups, faith organisations and social enterprises. Together, these groups contribute around £130m to the local economy and provide vital services to communities.
The sector is facing significant challenges, from funding pressures and volunteer shortages to growing demand for services.
An independent survey confirmed that organisations urgently need more help with funding, HR, and sustainability. We’ve listened and are expanding our team, with new investment secured and now, we’re seeking new trustees to join our board and help steer the next phase of our journey.

Role
As a trustee you will:
- Provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge
- Ensure financial and organisational sustainability
- Champion good governance and sector values
- Act as an ambassador for Sector 3 with partners and funders
- Support the CEO and team in achieving our charitable objectives
Commitment
- Approx. four board meetings per year (mix of online/in person)
- Sub-committee or occasional working group involvement
- Term of 3 years (renewable)
Practicalities
- Voluntary role (reasonable expenses reimbursed)
- In person board/online meetings (accessible and flexible)
- Full induction and ongoing support provided
