Neighbourhood Watch Scheme Coordinator

REF: 67ae29793a014

The aim of the Neighbourhood Watch Network is to build safer, stronger and more resilient communities where crime and anti-social behaviour are less likely to happen.

Role

As a Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator, your role is to:
● Contact neighbours in your scheme area and to invite them to join.
● Ensure your scheme is registered on the NWN website and membership and scheme information is kept updated.
● Encourage members to sign up on the website, if they are unable to do this, make sure that ALL members are supported, irrespective of how they joined the scheme.
● Act as a point of contact for residents, the local policing team, Stockport NWA and other bodies to receive and cascade information relevant to scheme members.
● Get to know your neighbours, particularly those who are vulnerable or isolated, and ensure information reaches them through their preferred method of communication.
● Signpost members with community safety concerns to the most appropriate organisation.
● Encourage members to report suspicious incidents and / or criminal or anti-social behaviour to the police or local authority.
● Promote personal responsibility for community safety by sharing crime reduction information and encouraging members to improve their home, on-line and personal security.
● Promote neighbourliness by encouraging members to keep an eye on each other’s homes and possessions, giving special consideration to supporting vulnerable neighbours.
● Support the local police and other agencies to identify local issues and solve problems where there are community concerns

The scheme can cover a street, part of a street, or even a whole housing estate. Each scheme is unique and run by its coordinator (deputies as well if it’s a large one), with some holding regular meetings and others staying in touch via email or WhatsApp. It's up to you what is best for your street

If you are interested in starting a scheme we have a starter pack which includes introductory cards, window stickers etc. and obviously any advice you need.

Stockport Neighbourhood Watch Association

Organisation description:

The aim of the Neighbourhood Watch Network is to build safer, stronger and more resilient communities where crime and anti-social behaviour are less likely to happen. Stockport Neighbourhood Watch Association is the link between the national organisation, ‘Our Watch’, and individual schemes in the Stockport area. In Stockport there are about 120 schemes run by coordinators. Their size varies between around 20 houses to whole housing estates. Some have regular meetings, annual meals and such, others do not. Some have Facebook groups, others communicate via email, WhatsApp or such or even have an old-fashioned paper newsletter which is posted through doors. We aim to support these schemes and to encourage potential new ones. We have a starter pack for new schemes, and we arrange meetings with informative talks and the opportunity to network and share ideas. The SNWA has a committee consisting of four executive officers: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers are elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Executive Officers can co-opt volunteers as admin assistants to help the committee. These assistants are designated as General Committee Members. We are currently looking for a Secretary and anyone interested in being an admin assistant. See below for what is involved.
