Marple Library Digital champion

REF: 66faae20245fe

Would you like to help more people in Stockport to use the internet or feel more confident using a computer? Tech genius NOT required! Your everyday knowledge using a smart phone or browsing websites is enough.

Are you friendly and patient? Do you feel confident speaking to new people? Have you helped friends or family to use their computer or phone? Do you want to help people to learn the skills they need to study, submit work online or find work? Then being a Digital champion volunteer is for you!

Role

We know that people often turn to Stockport libraries when they need help with computers. There is free WiFi, PC’s to use, and learners may come in with their devices for support. That’s where you can help!

Marple library are setting up a pop up session in Marple Scout hut from Oct 2024, whilst the main library building is being redeveloped. They want to keep offering all the same services to local people, and that includes computer help.

The role is likely to be on a Tuesday, 12.30 - 1.30pm at Marple Scout hut from November 2024

Marple library are teaming up with Starting Point to find friendly volunteers who can support learners with tasks like feeling more confident to use a smart phone, checking emails, filling in online forms, or looking up information online. They may want support to send a CV or follow a free online computer course.

Starting Point support Digital champions across Stockport to help others to get online, as well as running our own Digital Skills sessions. We have over 50 volunteers who help across the area, and we’d love you to join our network of volunteers.

You’ll get full training for this role, as well as support from Library staff when you volunteer, as well as help from Starting Point staff. You’ll be part of a group of volunteers, so you’ll never be on your own when you help out. We have a rota for these roles, so you don’t need to volunteer every week (unless you want to!)
