Digital Champion for York Street community centre, Edgeley

REF: 67e27c0d4875e

Would you like to help more people in Stockport to use the internet or feel more confident using a computer? Tech genius NOT required! Your everyday knowledge using a smart phone or browsing websites is enough.

Are you friendly and patient? Do you feel confident speaking to new people? Have you helped friends or family to use their computer or phone? Do you want to help people to learn the skills they need to book online appointments, use What's app to chat to family, or search for work? Then being a Digital champion volunteer is for you!

This role is supported by Starting Point staff, and you'll be part of a team of friendly Digital Champion volunteers. You'll get full training for this role and support to start volunteering. This session is a lively drop in, where you'll get to meet some regulars, and some people looking for help with computers for the first time, or who just come along occasionally.

Role

This role is part of a drop in session at York Street Community centre, Edgeley.
Tuesdays 3-4pm

Address is: Bengal St, Edgeley, Stockport SK3 9HT

We would love to have your help every week, but can be flexible if you have other commitments. Some of our volunteers help out only in term time, others are volunteering as part of work volunteer hours. For instance, two volunteering days a year means if you split this time, you can help us for one hour every fortnight.

Training for this role will take place on Wednesday 9th April 10am - 2.30pm, in an online, interactive training session with other new Digital Champions.
If you can't make this date, we will have further training in May.

When you volunteer with Starting Point, you'll be part of a wider network of 50+ Digital Champion volunteers across Stockport. We have regular top up training sessions, socials, access to skills guides and online training.
We'd love to have your help - thank you.

What are our volunteers like? Everyone is different! Some of our volunteers are retired, some are looking for work. Some are trying something new after being unwell or children becoming part of their family. Please tell us how we can help you feel included whatever your culture, ethnicity or sexuality. We welcome people with disabilities to volunteer with us, we can give you all the info about our sessions and venue. Please talk to us about adjustments we can make so you can volunteer happily with us. You do need to volunteer independently in a sometimes noisy environment.
