Community Walk Leader - Walk for Health Stockport

Walk for Health comprises of 3 free weekly community walks, meeting at 3 locations across Stockport. Our groups offer walks of different terrain, distance and duration. We offer a warm welcome to people wanting to improve their health and make social connections. We are looking for volunteers to assist our current volunteer walk leaders.

- Abney Hall Wanderers, Cheadle (Tuesday 1.30pm). An easy to moderate 30-40min walk around the park with some off-road paths.
- Mooch & Mingle, Alexandra Park, Edgeley (Thursday 12.30 - 2pm). For people with limited mobility looking to connect with others in a safe & supportive environment.
- Woodbank Wanderers (Thursday 1pm). A more challenging walk with differing terrain, locations can vary. Duration 1-4 hours.

The groups meet every week throughout the year. Walks go ahead in all weathers, unless the forecast is extreme.

Role

We are looking for volunteers with the following:
An interest and enjoyment in walking.
Friendly & sociable.
Happy to walk in all weathers.
Able to commit to one weekly walk.
Supportive and encouraging of others.
Available to attend informal meetings with other walk leaders (approx bi-monthly, plus one AGM).

Organisation description:

The Community Hub team: - Support the socially isolated to access local community activities (social groups, peer support, education and training, volunteering, support groups). - Facilitate weekly social groups (dementia, SEN youth group, mental health support, social games group, walking groups, menopause peer support). - Provide advice and guidance to community groups that are new or wanting to develop their local offer.
